 Reclamation

Man versus nature is a timeless theme that has permeated both literature and art throughout the ages. Man intrudes on nature to build his own version of Shangri-La; nature eventually outlasts man and returns the land to its original natural paradise. John Bosma’s “Reclamation” explores this phenomenon in a contemporary setting.

Bio

John Bosma left the security of the corporate world to pursue his primary passion: photography. As an artist, the energy behind his photography lies in “capturing the moment” whether he is shooting a morning sunrise, an intimate portrait, or a sporting event – composing the image in such a way that the viewer can actually experience both the intensity and emotion of the moment.

In addition to photographing NCAA and other live sporting events, John is an official photographer for the Long Beach Toyota Grand Prix, Progenex a major CrossFit Games sponsor, the Heads-Up Youth Foundation Annual Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by Rob Fukuzaki of ABC7 Sports, and various other organizations in the Los Angeles area. His commercial and editorial photographs have been featured in publications and online magazines, his official portraits of CrossFit athletes have been sold worldwide, and his images have appeared in numerous advertising and marketing campaigns.

His solo exhibition Elite Athleticism: Beauty, Brawn, and Solitude presented July 2014 captured the three dimensions of elite athleticism: the solitude and personal vulnerability in the training room, the brawn and grit that an athlete must pull from within him/herself in competition, and the artistic expression achieved when the form and technique of the craft has been fully achieved. His work has also been displayed in a variety of museums and galleries, some of which include the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston, MA; the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, TX; the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA); and the LENSCRATCH Fine Art Photography Daily.

John also conducts a variety of travel photography workshops and classes on camera & lighting technique, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and Adobe Photoshop.

Born in the US Midwest, John has lived in Canada, spent time in Europe, and resided in Los Angeles since 2008.
